Class Change and Clarification for 2026
In the Past:
The Electric Class raced the shorter, easier 8-mile Red Course. Only three laps were required to finish.
2026 Change:
There will be no dedicated Electric Motorcycle class in 2026. Riders may enter any class they choose, provided it reflects an honest assessment of their experience and skill level, and there are not displacement restrictions.
Context:
The electric motorcycle landscape has evolved significantly over the past seven years. The VCGP was an early adopter of e-moto racing. In 2019, we created a class to support emerging technology and provide riders a venue to test their bikes and abilities on a course aligned with early performance capabilities.
The 2026 e-moto environment is markedly more advanced. Most electric dirt bikes now feature fast, easily swappable batteries (with the exception of the Stark Varg). At race pace, these bikes typically offer a range of approximately 25 miles per battery setup, enabling them to complete a full loop.
At its core, racing is about the rider—strategy, skill, conditioning, vision, and the grit to push hard for hours while keeping it (mostly) on two wheels. With current technology, it’s time to see what these bikes can truly do.
Further Clarification:
E-motos will likely need to pit each loop for battery changes. Whereas gas-powered bikes (depending on tank size and throttle discipline) typically do not need to pit every lap. As a result, e-motos may still face a slight disadvantage compared to ICE bikes, despite their immediate torque delivery and exceptional horsepower-to-weight ratios. A designated pit area will be provided for e-moto racers and their generators.
Battery swaps may only happen in the Pits!
